HIPAA Secure Fax - Protected Health Information (PHI) Secure Fax
As a result of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), Public Law 104-191, which established privacy laws to protect the security and confidentiality of a patients PHI (Protected Health Information), iFax.us has implemented both the physical and the technical safeguards necessary for your company to be in compliance. iFax.us protects the confidentiality and integrity of patient's PHI, and in accordance with HIPAA. iFax.us offers the only SAS70 compliant secure fax platform in the industry and we'll be happy to share our annual SAS70 Audit Document with you for your review.
No longer can patient information be sent to an unmanned fax machine that is in an open area for anyone to pick-up and view. One way to be in compliance with HIPAA and PHI is to use Fax Mail secure fax delivery features, so that each fax is securely attached in an email and only those granted access to that email account will be allowed to view the data. The transmitted fax will be converted to a PDF or TIFF file for easy document storage with other electronic patient information. The PDF File can also be password encrypted upon creation and only those with the password can open the file.
